This long, full day hike takes us up to Loktacohkka with its fantastic scenery.
We start at the Guesthouse and head westwards along the E10 in our own minibuses to a spot in Björkliden where we park. Then we set off on the 13km hike to Loktacohkka.
Loktacohkka is 1404 metres above sea level and its name means ‘high point’. It is an interesting place to find plant life that craves lime, such as the pretty yellow Arctic arnica, the wonderfully-named Wolly Pussytoes, a type of daisies and Lousewort, which has beautiful pink flowers from June onwards. Rare spruce grasses pop up, like the Two-colour Sedge which flowers in July.
The view is spectacular, especially towards Kuokkel’s small hills and mount Vadvetjåkka but also down over Lake Torenträsk too. Reindeer may appear, as well as birds and possibly a fox or two.
We stop for lunch at the Låktatjåkko mountain lodge - Sweden's highest mountain lodge, situated 1228 meters above sea level and around 9 km from Björkliden. We recommend you bring food for lunch with you though you can buy some in the café.
This hiking tour is available most days in the summer. Lunch is not included so bring food with you, though it is possible to buy some small snacks at the cafe. The hike takes a long full day, 9 hours and starts at 08:00. Clothing should be suitable for being out in the weather and 26km of walking.
Minimum 4 people
