The night sky about the Guesthouse is something special. By September, it is possible to the see the northern lights and they will be visible until mid-April.
What advice would you like to give guests coming to photograph in Abisko?
"The most complicated aspect of night photography, from my experience, is the framing of photograph. Getting to know the place you want to photograph from during the daytime helps for when it is dark. I recommend going out during daylight hours and taking some test photos, looking for good angles to photograph from. That prepares you for the nighttime, giving you a good understanding of the area you're going to.
My advice is to have patience! Do not be impatient and instead enjoy the moment. When we see the northern lights, we all want to photograph it and have the best photos but try to stop for a moment and enjoy the experience. Wild animals are always difficult to photograph as you cannot predict their behavior or get too close so with patience and good planning you can get impressive photos.
Finally, don't forget to bring warm clothes! It's quite cold up here in the winter :)"

Our Aurora BBQ is great and you stay warm while you wait for the northern lights to appear. We highly recommend it!
We start in our own BBQ hut alongside the hotel, with a beautiful view of Lake Torneträsk and there we BBQ a local Sami dish called 'souvas' with local vegetables. We cook in a very large dish in the center of the room over an open fire, in the old-fashioned Sami way. Souvas is made from lightly smoked reindeer meat and is delicious.
We don't let the weather bother us, we sit and enjoy the fire and the food and relax in the warm bbq hut while we wait for the northern lights to appear.
Once we are happy and full, we take the snowmobiles or minibuses out to find a great spot for seeing and photographing the aurora. We stop as soon as we see it and always have plenty of time for taking photos. Our guides can help you get a good shot, on your camera.

The aurora snowshoe walk takes you away from the light of Abisko and through the forest at night, which is a very special experience. We use the old way of hiking in the snow, with snowshoes on. We see the northern lights when they are visible and usually local wildlife out at night too.
We often had towards Nabben and stop at good places to see the northern lights. We might even go down onto the lake.
During the walk, our guides will serve some hot drinks to help us stay warm.
The walk is relatively easy so most people can do it. Contact us if you would like a tougher hike and a challenge!
