Check out this super video of highlights from a guest's tour of Scandinavia by train. As they stand on top of a hill, you see Abisko and the valley, with Lake Torneträsk in the background (frozen!).

The sky above Abisko is ablaze with the northern lights from September to April each year. See for yourself!

Our Aurora BBQ is great and you stay warm while you wait for the northern lights to appear. We highly recommend it!
We start in our own BBQ hut alongside the hotel, with a beautiful view of Lake Torneträsk and there we BBQ a local Sami dish called 'souvas' with local vegetables. We cook in a very large dish in the center of the room over an open fire, in the old-fashioned Sami way. Souvas is made from lightly smoked reindeer meat and is delicious.
We don't let the weather bother us, we sit and enjoy the fire and the food and relax in the warm bbq hut while we wait for the northern lights to appear.
Once we are happy and full, we take the snowmobiles or minibuses out to find a great spot for seeing and photographing the aurora. We stop as soon as we see it and always have plenty of time for taking photos. Our guides can help you get a good shot, on your camera.
Lightly smoked reindeer meat and vegetables, soft drinks. We can provide outdoor clothing, free for Abisko Guesthouse guests.
Bring with you:
Warm clothes to sit around . Do not forget to take your camera with you!
We start the BBQ between 18:00-20:00, depending on the time of year and weather conditions that day (earlier in the season, it needs to be later so that it is dark. In December, we can start as early as 18:00). Ask at reception for the starting time.
